Hello Ed,

My lights of Sunday evening (after the meal...):=20

Terra cotta =3D terre cuite =3D fired clay
=20

At the origin, "Terra cotta" indicates mainly a fired clay of red color =
covered with a white slip or a stanniferous glaze (with SnO2 =3D tin =
oxide), this to hide the color of the clay, made by the Italian potters =
of the Middle Ages or during the Renaissance, it seems to me... You =
should check the time and place, but the red color is for sure!!!=20
In fact, this type of ceramics was very popular in the Mediterranean =
basin, but it was the Italians who gave it the name, which has remained =
the same until our days. Today it also indicates, among commercial =
suppliers of ceramics, any kind of ceramics of the "earthenware" type =
fired (baked) at less than 1000=B0C (near 950-980=B0C), whether the =
paste is white, beige, yellowish or red...=20

Cordially=20
