Surfing with Helen Bates - New York and Connecticut - August 30, 2003

Steven Hill Workshop (Morty Bachar's Lakeside Pottery) (Stamford, CT, USA)

Click on "Steven Hill Workshop" for information regarding Lakeside's
upcoming 3-day workshop by Steven Hill (October 17 to 19, 2003.) There
is also and a very nice slide show if Steven's throwing technique.
Stamford is very accessible to New York City. There is a link on site
to zoomable maps at Mapquest(TM.)

Clay Alfred (Alfred University) (Alfred, NY, USA)

A new Alfred University site - available so far is a Database of the
last 10 years' MFA grads (1992 - 2002.) A glaze database is indicated,
but is not loading at this time. Similarly, the "Faculty" section is
not yet online.
The New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University primary site
is still:

Allegany Artisans Studio Tour

This group includes several potters, some with personal web site links.

Buffalo State University Design Programs

For Ceramics Program click "Program" then click the dot beside "Ceramic."
(Student portfolio images suggest a sculptural emphasis, but wheel
throwing techniques seem to be used as well as hand building, and
"functional" as well as "non-functional" work is encouraged.)

Historic Hudson Valley (Tarrytown, NY, USA)

Vase (Odell and Booth Brothers pottery, earthenware, c. 1883)
(Educational site featuring Sunnyside, Washington Irving, etc.)

Tim Rowan (Stone Ridge, NY, USA)

While not the Tim who throws "fat bottles with skinny necks and flared
tops" recently referred to on Clayart, this Tim Rowan makes very nice
stuff, chiefly hand built functional and sculptural work, especially
tableware and vessels.
