Hi Carol-

Well, you've come to the fun part of ceramics. Variation. It is endless. My techniques for getting a consistant floating blue are very different from those who have responded so far.
I use b mix cone 5, bisque to cone 06, fire to cone 5, apply two coats, always dip, (I am a chronic and hopeless dipper), use small cones in a Dawson Kiln sitter, and have maginficent results every time. I get an occasional crawl, mostly on large bowls and near the rim, which i reglaze and refire. Turns out ok. Dust is the enemy of glazes, and i think fb is particularly suseptible to dust. I make sure my pots are clean and always dip them in clean, clean water for 3-5 seconds just before i glaze them. I wait until i can't see any water on the surface and then glaze them.
So, as you can see, there are many roads to the same destination. To repeat some good advice, practice, practice, practice. Test, test, test. Keep good notes.
You will find the combination that works for you.

Kind Regards,
