I don't know if he's on clayart but David Jefferson (Toad Art Studios)
in Ann Arbor has been doing lithopanes for years. He was recently
featured on HGTV's "Modern Masters".

Hi List...!

I am looking for any Lithophane Artists among us. Are there any out
there that are practicing the art these days. If there are would you
please p-mail me? Or if anyone knows of one....two...or more, would you
please let me know about them.

Thanks,

I know there is a Lithophane museum at the Toledo Botanical Gardens.
Last weekend I was doing handbuilding demos next door to it, at the
potter's guild, during an "Art in the Garden" event (glass blowing and
stained glass demos, herb society, painters, all the organizations who
have artist cottage/studios there doing demos and selling) -- anyway I
got to meet "Banana George" -- a wild elder-man dressed all in yellow
with a yellow cowboy hat and sunglasses. He handed me a postcard with
photos of himself barefoot waterskiing withthe tow rope in his teeth,
snowboarding, etc.... later someone told me he has been interviewed by
NPR.

I spun him some lines of b.s. about these artifiction-story-boxes I am
building, each with its own Grimm-ish tale... he grinned.. took my card
and thanked me for a surreal experience. T'was mutual. The link: He is
apparently the "baby brother" of the Lithophane museum's late
founder/donor.

If there is a website for it, a search might turn it up, linked to
Toledo Botanical Garden. There must be some society of lithophane
enthusiasts who could direct you...

good luck!

me that displeased teacher look)
