Kickwheel Pottery Supply is proud to announce our first workshop in our brand
new Elements Clay School & Gallery. Elements will be presenting Sharif Bey, a
2003 J. William Fulbright research grant recipient. Sharif's topic is
"Understanding Form and Surface". Dates are September 20th & 21st, 2003. The cost is
50.00 for one day and 90.00 for both days.
During this two-day workshop, participants will discover how functional
pottery can possess elegance with the sensitive use of color, texture, pattern,
and imagery. Through demonstrations of techniques such as sgraffito, mishima,
stamping and paddling, participants will understand how form and surface
interact. While emphasis will be placed on decorating wheel thrown stoneware,
several handbuilding projects also will be introduced. Participants will also
learn to work with engobes, underglazes and oxides. Studio time will be
supplemented with demonstrations, discussions and slide shows.
Workshop participants are each invited to bring one piece of leather-hard
work for assistance in applying the learned techniques (not required).
