drilling in brick - and what a spade bit is...

Hi Vince,

You are thinking of something else...if you make an
in-effect Drill Bit out of a diamolnd nose sharpening of
some All-Thread, it is not a Spade Bit.

A Spade Bit has usually a 1/4 inch shank, and has for it's
end, a flat, wider, centrally-pointed 'spade' end, kind of
like a Shovel...flat and wide...

Unless you forge the end of your All-Thread to be flat and
wide at the drilling end, it may not be a Spade Bit, but is
merely a pointed rod...

...best!

Phil -
Semantics. I do more than make a pointed rod. I grind the all-thread to a
chisel-tip, and then grind off the two sides so that the tip and cutting
surfaces really are like those on a spade bit. It is self-centering, and
doesn't wander on the surface at all. It doesn't have the broad surface of
a spade bit, but for all practical purposes, it is a spade bit.
Best wishes -

Hi Vince!

Ohhhhhhhkay...gotcha, now I understand...before, all I knew
was yu doing the 'chisel-point' on the end...clearer now,
and a 'Spade' of sorts it indeed is!

Best wishes!

Happy drilling!
