Actually,

You can single fire majolica--you just need to fire slower (as usual) or the
glaze will pinhole.

Thank you.

Dear Fran,

I only single fire...

I only use paper clay.

I have never seen a problem and I fire many glazes.

Q #1: I am using MileHi's Hi-fire Paperclay. I want to fire non-food use
objects which are 1/4" thick at 1450 degrees and, using ^04 majolica glaze
plus colorants and stains mixed with FF3124, refire to ^04. Will this work?

Q#2: My use of Hi-fire Paperclay was inadvertent. Is Lo-fire Paperclay
suitable for single firing? P'clay is smelly until the pulp is burned out.
I fire out-of-doors so that 's not a problem. BUT will the gas and carbon
emissions interfere with the single fire glaze?

All recommendations welcome!

#1 For Majolica, it is necessary to bisque at the same or higher
temperature than the glaze firing. You intended ^04 and bisque at 1450
degrees. Not a good idea. The glaze will crackle on a low bisque.
#2 Single firing is possible nut not for majolica.

Hi,
Don't know about #1 but I single-fire Paper Porcelian Clay with and
without glaze - to cone 6. The results are fine. I don't notice any
difference but, I'm told, some glazes 'may' react differently.
Cheers, Ann
