mugging around

John H. I think I will try and send a few mugs out to
The Volunteer English Program In Chester County in
regards to your inguiry. I got to read it more and I
am in Alabama but I support these kinds of things when
I can. I have also asked a friend who isn't much at
potting but likes to hand build and he always is good
at volunteering for a good cause and has agreed to try
and build a few pieces. I will re-check the site
tommorow for time frame.

Ron Roy - You said it all. There is a very strong
change happening in the minds of potters and more
recently potters are beginning to once again look at
angles and methods and learn more and more about how a
process effects their work. Your book and others out
there have really inspired a lot of people to hone
their skills and dig deep for answers. I still wish
there was a better way to get our re-sellers for raw
materials, Chemicals and coloring oxides to provide
better services through analytical means. I have seen
all too often that getting even an MSDS sheet is like
pulling teeth and it should be offered freely with
every order. A technical sheet should also be
available upon asking so that purity of content and
latest analysis could be better understood.

"What we really need to do is design experiments to
try and prove we are
wrong as well.

There is all to much guessing going on and it is
important that we realize
just how misleading that is.

We have much to learn and we - as potters - are the
only ones who are going
to get the answers because of the materials we use."

Dear Bill,

I think you have set off another rant - I'll resist as much as I can.

There are those among us who will need to be dragged - kicking and screaming -

When we can - we should spend a few extra dollars and show some support for
those suppliers that are trying to do it right. They spend the extra
dollars - testing - trying to be responsible - hiring those that have some
understanding and care - and - still have to compete with those that do no
testing. Buying the cheapest clay and materials is false economy anyway.

Help those that are trying to help you.
