new tool for glazing.... a jar lifter

I came across a canning tool called a "Jar Lifter".
I thought it might be a useful glazing tool.
Came home and used it.... by golly it works really well!
It's coated, easy to hold and will gently but firmly grip the foot
or rim of a pot. No more hand cramps when I hold a
bowl by the foot.

Just thought I'd share my discovery which I'm sure someone
has already discovered. It's made by Mirro... look for it in the
canning supplies section. I think it was a little over $5.
Don't ask me to describe it... I'm too tired from working non-stop
in the studio, finishing work, loading the car and getting ready for a show.
To quote Monty Python, "My brain hurts!" :-)

BTW.....On the packaging there is a USA flag with
"Proudly Crafted" printed in caps next to it.
However on further inspection the fine print on the back says
"Made in Taiwan".......... I'm confused!

Funny you should mention the Mirro jar lifter today.
I bought one when I was a pottery student in the '70's, because
I was too cheap to buy real glazing tongs. I saw it at a surplus-
type place for less than a dollar and thought, 'This ought to
work as a glazing tong.'
Tat was so long ago really WAS made in the USA.

I've used it ever since. Whenever I need to glaze a piece all over,
especially lids, I bring it out. It can be used to grab onto bowl feet,
lid knobs, or just the side walls of pots.

Once a year or so, the jar lifter leaves the studio for a visit to the
house, to perform its intended function. Today was the day.
This morning I canned 9 jars of green beans, 8 jars of cut tomatoes,
and 15 jars of picante sauce.

No confusion there, Gayle. Just many companies
are going way out of their way to try to IMPLY that
products were made (or grown) in the U.S. They do
very sly things to create this impression - and sometimes
they just lie.

Glad you mentioned the "jar lifter". I'd completely
forgotten about those things, but my grandmother
used to have two in the kitchen - I can remember her
lifting the jars of tomatoes out of the big speckled blue
pot, among clouds of steam, and setting them on her
"canning table" to cool. Guess I'll see if I can find one
on my way to glaze this a.m.
