ONE:

Oh, alas, alack, woe is me... Looks like I will not be able to attend...
But starting out by train at 07.49 a.m. arriving Aberystwyth11.22 a.m.,
hauling myself up to the Campus on the Hill, then around before trotting
back to catch the 19.35 p.m. to arrive back in Criccieth at 22.53 p.m.
would be too "challenging". 3-4 hours travelling time each way, YET I CAN
flaming well SEE ABERYSTWYTH FROM HERE!!! Just think... Such is the
difficulty getting around this mountainous/coastal country over land,
Russel will spend less actual travelling time getting there from Brussels
via Birmingham!

So... got to face reality these days, although I was toying with the idea
of martyrdom (or at least three days agony -- not a good idea as we have a
change of exhibition opening on Wed.)
And then Eckhard shook his head today when Jacqui asked me if I would be
going... So sadly my first miss in years... AND it would be the year Warren
McKennzie will be there. Blast! Just proves keeping your fingers crossed
does not always work :-(

So I wish all the Clayarters attending in the flesh a fine time and hope
the weather smiles down on them (shall not tempt providence by saying
everyone usually needs suntan lotion and lots of liquid refreshment.... :-)
To my knowledge Clayarters will include:

Avril Farley (South Wales Potters)
Jacqui Kruzewski (North Wales Potters)
Both have been working on the organisational side... NWP & SWP being
co-hosts.

Jenny Lewis (Our Woman in London, UK)
Robin (Top Pot Supplies, UK)
Russel Fouts (Belgium)
Steve Mills (Bath Potters, UK)
plus a man who very graciously said he would look forward to meeting
Russel, but ignored everyone else who was talking about going at that
time... Forget his name, but several of us gals took umbrage at that
particular post... Leave the boys to it if they want to be like that,
is/was my reaction! :-)

The Clayart Claything Exchange is at the Bath Potters trade stall (in the
big Marquee at the Art Centre end as usual, Steve?) and Jacqui has made
neat clay identity badges which can be picked up by Clayarters. From the
same place, I presume Jacqui? Sorry forgot to ask you today.

TWO:

Now what about everyone saying hello in Aberystwyth Real Time?? Did
everyone on Clayart get that mail from Jeffrey Jones, the Editor of
"Interpreting Ceramics"?

He said:

<<< During the week of Friday 4th July to Friday 11th July 2003 you will be
able
to contribute to a live debate through the pages of Interpreting Ceramics,
electronic journal http://www.interpretingceramics.com

Computers will be available at the festival for festival-goers to make
their contribution but anyone is welcome to join in the discussion. To
start the debate off we are inviting comments on the role of ceramic
festivals and the ways that they impact on ceramic practice. The debate
will be truly 'live' with contributions appearing instantaneously on the
web site.

On Saturday 5th July at 3.00 p.m. (1400 hrs GMT, 1500 hrs British Summer
Time) we are proposing to hold a special online meeting as part of our
first live debate. This meeting would be a more focused time within the
period of a week that the live debate is open. We would like to invite you
to this meeting; you would simply need to be at your computer at this time
ready to make a contribution. We have tried to arrange a time that would
suit most of you but we realise that we cannot suit everyone. For those of
you for whom this time falls in the middle of the night, remember that you
can always add your contribution later.<<<

Well of course I think you should all stay up all night!! I don't know if
there is going to be a webcam or anything at the Aberystwyth end, but for
all of us stay-at-homes, how about meeting up with the Aberite Clayarters?

Aberystwyth is really small fry compared to NCECA and the likes, but I am
sure anyone who has had any experience with "Ceramic Festivals" will be
able to contribute something interesting... Don't let it put you off
participating, but I plan to be there on-line... Will be saying hello under
the guise of "talking festivals"... From home, unless I throw all caution
to the wind, bludgeon Eckhard into acceptance and actually make it down the
coast...

Sincerely

Janet Kaiser

Yep, that was a very definate shake of the head from Eckhard yesterday.
Janet will be staying at home this time, which is a shame. There we were,
all ready to wheel you around in your bath chair Janet - you could have
given everyone the Royal wave - or your version of it anyway!

Also attending will be Chris and Geoff Cox who are also clayarters as well
as organisers of the glorious Potfest events. I hope everybody will bring
something for the exchange - which I think we might make on Saturday night.
We will decide when we've met up with everybody.

The shell pins are just about 200 degrees centegrade by now, but will be
ready. They will be with Steve Mills from Saturday morning - I will be
wearing mine on Friday night (opening ceremony) along with John's
Glazemaster pin. I will persuade Avril to wear her shell too. So please say
Hi to us. Any of you who would like one of Phil's Bison Tools catalogues -
I have a small supply, but am bringing them to distribute - Phil was hoping
to be there in person - maybe next time.

I've been busy organising the North Wales Potters and South Wales Potters
exhibition, which is in the chapel - and we will be manning the exhibition
from 9am to 10am on Saturday morning - so you all know where to find (or
AVOID!) us. Both Avril and I will be bringing some pots with us so please
say "hi" to our work too - Avril's is lovely so don't miss it - unashamed
plug for my friend's WONDERFUL crystals!

See you all there!
