There are spaces available in a workshop/class that will construct a small
(14 ft.) anagama style wood fired kiln at Corning Community College in
Corning, New York. The class will meet from July 28- Aug 8, 2003 and be
taught by Wisconsin based woodfire potter Simon Levin (see his personal
website at www.woodfire.com). The class will construct the kiln and also
cover topics such as woodfiring, kiln design theory, flame and arch
dynamics, refractory materials, kiln history, and loading options. The first
firing of CCC's new kiln and participants' work will follow the workshop.
College credit is available, cost for the 2 week workshop is $333 for NY
residents and $666 for out of state. Please contact CCC Assistant Professor
of Art Fred Herbst at herbst@corning-cc.edu or 607-962-9297 for more
