clay it forward///// bison tools

updated sat 28 jun 03

Joyce Lee on wed 25 jun 03

The three recipients for a gift certificate for
a Bison tool have been selected and informed.
So many claybuds have had dark days recently
that the selection process became pretty
involved ..... thus the delay in making a=20
decision.

The Bison, of course, will not alter dire
circumstances ..... but would, indeed, be a nice
luxurious lift for any potter during rough times.
If I had my
druthers we'd have dozens to offer and each
applicant would receive one. BUT that kind of
thinking stalls and eventually kills many good
things..... the kind of thinking that whispers,
"if we can't give one to all worthy souls, then
maybe we shouldn't give any at all...." AND the
kind of thinking that says, "I don't want to make
this decision; it's too difficult; I want to be The
Good Guy All the Time..." What is that
called, Stinkin' Thinkin' ?...... bad cess to
Stinkin' Thinkin'.......

Thank you for being so open and trusting me.

Sheesh, Joyce, This REALLY puts a nasty taste in my mouth. Just tell
him you are biased as hell, and move on. I know I NOW am (biased now).

Ned, as a former school administrator, I'm sure Joyce has had LOTS of
experience with your type. But it wasn't her favorite part of the
job........

Joyce,

Since - as you acknowledge, Joyce - we are trusting you to choose the
winners, and seeing as there are no 'rules' that we clayarters are
aware of for the process would you tell us just _how_ you choose from
among the applicants? Drawing straws? Tarot? I Ching? Tea leaves?

Can we be sure that did not allow your known strong personal feelings
for/against certain clayarters to influence your choices?

best wishes

Ned

Joyce,

Thank you for handling this clay-it-forward gift from a very kind
clayart donor

who cheerfully admits, one: he was an applicant, and two: he is not
exactly on Joyce's Christmas card list, alas!

I made an obscene gesture to my computer when I read that nasty post to
Joyce....good grief, I don't think some people have enough to do,
obviously...I think I'll go sand and bisque for a while....after having just
come from Guatemala City, paying three dollars a pound for ceramic grade
plaster.....Melinda Collins, Antigua, Guatemala
