signing your pots - revisited

I use to sign my pots chguise (when I remembered to sign them at all) But
then I got married and chclarke just didn't seem to work.

I don't like the way it looks. Plus I wasn't a clarke, I'm a guise. Now
I'm just a block of three stamps, they're easier to remember and don't
require nice handwriting.

I never signed just chris, too androgynous. Girl or boy, can't tell without
the full name. But since I married a pat we have interchangeable names.
Chris and pat. Pat and chris. Freaks out the people at the bank. Is she
chris or pat?

And now I'm rambling, spent to much time in the sun I guess.

Tony -

I use my whole signature - "Gail L. Phillips", just as I would sign anything
else. I used to worry about putting a date on the pieces, because potential
customers might see an 'old' date, and not think the pot was 'fresh' (latest
work). I went to great lengths to devise a symbol code for dates, but never
wrote them down. I was young, my memory was good. Now, twenty years later, I
look at some of the pieces that I kept, and can't decode my own system! When
did I make that? Who knows? Give me another twenty years, and I'll be off
sititng in a corner, drooling and babbling. Not that this is much different
from what is already happening. Bleeble, leeble, leeble.

Whee!

Thank you for entertaining us all daily.

So...
how about signing pots that are made in
a certain geographic region....
I could get global or more specific...
"Made in California"....
"Made at the miner's shack"
"Made at the business park"
"Made at...the specific location I
happen to find myself inhabiting
at the given time of creation"

As to the global region
I am reminded of Steven Wright...the comedian
who sent out a postcard of the planet Earth...
and noted that he was "having a good time and
wished you were here..."

Or perhaps the signing could be
specific to a time sequence...
year...season...I hesitate to beckon
the forces of "Time Bandits" and a
Monty Python ethic...Terry Gillian please
come to my assistance...

Or perhaps...since the kiln has some
influence on the result of the work...
perhaps give the kiln site some acknowledgment
of the act of creation.
"This pot is destined to be fired
in ......kiln"

My work seems to react to all of the above
nuances of results in their existence....

happy day...
