nottingham pit fire party....

updated fri 23 may 03

We will be having one of our giant pit fires and party on saturday July
5th.

There will be no charge for this event, but all attendees are required
to bring a potluck dish and some libations for the group. We will
provide the pit along with materials to decorate the pots. Also we will
have several bbqs going for folks to cook up whatever they want, some
iced beer and wine, and chips with salsa.

There should be room for each person to have a few pots each in the pit
which is 34 ft. long, 6 ft. wide, and 5 ft. deep. One heck of a big fire
!!

There is plenty of room for camping and RVs ( sorry no showers), along
with lots of inexpensive motel space close by.

More info on our pit firings, local accomodations, etc., is on our web
site under "past workshops" via "Pit Firing" at www.nottinghamarts.org
and the link to Andy Clifts site www.claystation.com

RSVP if you are planning to attend and/or need more information to:
tsullivan@nottinghamarts.org

Hope to see many of you then. We'll make up for the rained out pit fire
at NCECA ( we had a great party but the pit was completely filled with
water).

Bah! All excited, I thought this exciting event was in Nottingham,
Nottinghamshire. Even http://www.NottinghamArts.org/ sounded promising.
Just up the road from me. I began to worry when I read about potluck
dishes, chips and slash (I know the Belgians put mayonnaise on their chips,
but salsa? Nah.).

Do we ever do fun stuff like this over here?

Yes we do Lewis.

You might find you have a local potters organisation - take a look on the
Craft Potters Association website, I'm sure they have listings of all the
associations there. In North Wales Potters we have all sorts of get
togethers, some more exciting than others. Then of course there's
Aberystwyth Internationl Ceramics Festival that is held every two years -
this year its 1st weekend in July - which is a non-stope event - kiln
firings through the night, demonstartions, trade stands......

This weekend coming there's a smallerPotters Market event at Denbigh, North
Wales . Potters and their pots, firings etc, which I will be attending,
along with many people I know, and many more I don't. Aberystwyth tickets
are sold out I believe, but Denbigh is pay on the door. Get to know folks,
you will find there are things going on.

More information? - ee me, I will find out the website addresses for Aber
and Denbigh for you.

Wow! Indeed "we" do it seems (well at least you do in Wales!). I would
be most grateful for more information or some addresses where I can start to
look for myself.

(I'm not sure whether "ee me" was meant to be "see me" - echoes of
schooldays long past there - or "email me" so I did neither and posted here!

Many thanks
