My first reaction is of surprise and dislike that this could be placed with art work. However, I can't help to think that I lack the tools to make an educated judgement on the subject because as it was already pointed out, we are not cultural experts on Japanese art. Well, I am not.
Now, in a few weeks I am taking a non-western art class to help bridge that gap. In looking around a bit, I came across the term wabi sabi. Could any of who are more versed on this explain whether or not his work fits that description?
