Dear Clayart:
Sorry if this is redundant. To put extra combustibles into a plain ol gas
kiln is
a) Stupid
b) Beneficial
c) Good but risky
Any commentary on this is greatly appreciated.
Of course i am probably commenting on wood or salt or somethin

You forgot (d)It Depends.... on the glazes, on the construction of the
kiln, on the ease of adding said combustibles, on the specific
combustible. Generally speaking, adding small pieces of wood can
create some nice surfaces. Shinos like it, for one. But you're not
going to be able to add enough wood to create a heavy ash effect. What
about dusting some pots with ash or blowing some ash into the kiln.
