Howdy,

I believe I have made an open invitation to all clayarters about this
event before. Here is the "official" invitation that is being mailed out
to all the local pottery teachers, professors and professionals in
northern Utah and the nearby surrounding states like western Wyoming,
southeastern Idaho, and northeastern Nevada. Let me know, in advance if
possible, if you are coming. We'd love to have a crowd.

Howdy,
4/30/03

It is that time of year again to put the annual Spring Fling/Clay
Olympics/Raku Party on your calendar. It is held at Box Elder High
School. Mark down May 9, 2003 on your calendar. Begins at 2:30 pm. and
ends when we can't stand it any more. Now, before you forget! Mark that
calendar! Write down the sculpture theme for this year is again relating
to the Golden Spike. Or maybe a late Cinco de Mayo.

A new addition to the party will be the firing of a Kasegama wood-fire
kiln. This is a fast-fire wood kiln that we will load as early as
possible, around 3:30- 4:30, fire it up, then shut it down around 9:00,
after reaching cone 10 or 11. Bring something to fire in it if you have
the urge.

Some of you will notice a slight conflict on the schedule due to the
10th of May being the commemoration of the driving of the Golden Spike
at Promontory Point. Some festivities will be held the evening of the
9th but most of the Golden Spike activities will be the day AFTER we
have our party. You can do both! The sculpture theme for this year is
specifically geared towards the celebration out at Promontory Point.
Bring photos of old trains, etc., for reference materials. We will be
doing some LARGE group sculptures as part of the festivities.

Pottery Teachers!!! Professors!! Clay professionals!!! This is your
party! Your chance to unwind, strut your stuff, show off your best
students, share your pet projects, and play in the mud. I am NOT sending
the usual invites to local politicians, the State Office of Education,
the State School Board, and the Governor's office. None of them ever
showed up anyway and the few that did acted like they were afraid of
catching some contagious disease from the clay or something. We might
have a few guest celebrities like football coaches and players from
various surrounding colleges and universities. Don't hold your breath.

Bring along your very best students if they want to strut their stuff
and join the competitions. Come ready to get dirty and share your best
or favorite projects with the rest of us. Don't forget to bring along
goodies for pot luck. There
