Actually, it's an attempt to do anything in clay (almost) to make money and avoid having to get a "real job". I'd have no problem glazing it myself and firing it to cone 10. I just don't have a ram press, and don't have the space for molds. It would cost me a helluva lot more to make them than it would cost a production company. This is not to replace my hand thrown work; more it might help relieve some of the financial pressure I'm under. Between war, weather and tourism, I never can even come close to predicting how sales will be day to day and week to week. I realize that this comes dangerously close to selling out (or may even be), but I'd rather do it, and still at least have my hands in a few different pots, than waitress or lapdance. This is not a replacement for the creativity (although I could see how it may set me up to head down a different path), but hopefully a way to free up the creativity. I really like Tony Clennell's "some and some" idea. Doing some of this lets me do some of that. Making sinks and doorknobs, and maybe dinnerware lets me have the freedom to also make what I want, without needing to think about how quickly it will sell, or is it gree

n enough, or blue enough. I can make the pots in my head for me. It's time to go glaze a load of pots that are coming with me to an art show in Panama City. My first big one. Woohoo! Somehow a whole 50lb. box of neph sye walked away, and my silica melted to the floor during the last flood. Hopefully, Murphy's Law will stop applying itself to the rest of this event. Later! Jules

It better be Florida, or I might just have to miss it. Are you in that area? Jules

Panama City Beach, is where I grew up. I live in Texas now but I am going
to be in PC the first week in June. What is the occasion of your trip to PC
and when is it ?
If you have a chance to meet Roland Hockett you will find him to be very
interesting and a wonderful artist. He teaches at Gulf Coast Community
College and he is the best art teacher I ever had. I had two semesters of
everything he taught.....Ceramics , Design, and Drawing. He could always find
something good in your art work, no matter how crappy it was. Then, he would
tell you how good that part was and why. Then he would encourage you to
expand on it. He was and hopefully still is the most generous artist/teacher
I know.

Ahhh.. good to know! I'll be there this coming weekend for an art show sponsored by the women's junior league. My boyfriend's brother lives there, so we have a free place to stay, making this a fairly inexpensive place to be. If I have time, I'll try to meet your teacher. Maybe he'll even come to this event. Who knows? I'm quite psyched, and nervous. Haven't looked in the kiln yet... Jules
