Black Stain
Mason Black #6600 is my black stain of choice. doesn't go blue, doesn't
go brown...in all the bases I have tried.
It is expensive per pound, but it has a lot of tinting strength.

Hurt Feelings

Yes people get 'hurt feelings' ! Some get em a lot , some get em a
little, some don't admit to it....and I suppose some never do(wha?)

I think the question has more to do with how you handle them, process
them, (wallow in them? unload them on mel?) v. whether or not you GET
them. Certainly many of us have felt that 'zing' when response to a post
takes an unexpected or directed turn. zings happen! It is one of the
feathers in our human plumage, the one that get's ruffled sometimes!

Do you shake it off? Do you say, "well maybe that person has a point
there", or do you get on the white charger or get out the poison pen? DO
you say "That &#$%*@### DONKEY!"
or do you say, "Hoo boy did I make a DONKEY out of myself THAT time!!!!,

Or do you say ," a DONKEY is a useful and appealing part of human
anatomy".

Or, do you just lurk? We all have different responses when challenged.

I think the CLAYART dialogue is good practice for us all. In our
culture it seems that we go to great lengths to avoid confrontation,
forgetting that there is such a thing as constructive confrontation .
...I learn so much about the range of human response just by reading
the parlay of this group! I see humor , persistence , criticism
,crankiness, stubbornness, forthrightness, honesty, occasional puffery,
kindness, debate, sharing, posturing, commiseration, mediation,
support, exasperation, joy, whining, irritation, patience, timidity,
boldness, confusion, clarity, clarification, confrontation, meandering
and on and on.

like anything we practice, we are not always graceful at it!
so there's certainly no need to feel subhuman if your feelings 'get
hurt.'

But just in case you are neither a stoic nor a saint,
If you find today's list of 'issues' is more cluttered than clear,
If you find yourself taking subliminal dictation from a bruised ego
while writing to CLAYART

I recommend you call Lucy to the rescue. i.e.

Allow yourself to channel the spirit of Lucy Ricardo, from "I love
Lucy"...

Just as your eyes well up and your lip starts to quiver (with just a
hint of self righteousness midst the sensitivity and hurt )

and your trembling fingers begin to type ..
your lips will turn a vibrant flaming red, Your eyelashes will grow an
inch, and suddenly and without warning your mouth will fly wide open
!

NOW, with the most 'hurt feeling' face you can muster (c'mon, scrunch
it up!)
and at a TERRIFIC volume,

go 'WWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!".

no, no, not one of those little boo hoos......

c'mon, Just like Lucy. A big loud long "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

OH it is SO good!

now you can get back to glaze chemistry, which is really a more
satisfying method of self persecution....
and please, if you disagree with this post please don't tell me, I
just... can't....handle ... it....

PS. talk about 'hurt feelings' I started taking a belly dancing class
last week. Aside from the obvious discovery/rediscovery of obscure
muscles in the trunk, back and torso, ('Can I FIND that part of my
anatomy? can I MOVE that part of my anatomy? IF it moves, is it a
conscious move or just a spasm? If it moves will it drag the rest of me
with it when it goes?")
I found that one of the most demanding parts was working the finger
cymbals while dancing. I think of myself as having strong arms and
hands, but the simple yet repetitive hand and finger movements really
gave my hands, wrists and forearms a workout. will see if this helps
or hinders clayworking! As for the rest...no comment!
