call for artists - lineal

MudFire Gallery in Atlanta is looking for 5-7 artists to participate in an
exhibit of clay art entitled "LINEAL". The word lineal means essentially
the same as linear, though it does not have an annoying curved character at
the end ruining its purity. :^)

LINEAL will be a celebration of the purity, simplicity, and power of line.
The show will include 5-7 artists with 10-20 pieces each. We are looking
for both functional and sculptural work that demonstrates and is decorated
with simple strong lines. Very clean and geometric in form and finishes.
The primary medium must be clay.

The preferred way to apply for inclusion in the show is to email digital
images with descriptive information to info@mudfire.com. An artist
statement and resume are also of interest. Please keep file sizes
reasonable for a 56K modem. You may also send photos to us at 1441 Dresden
Drive, Suite 250, Atlanta, GA 30319. Please include SASE if you would like
the materials returned. If you are local and prefer to show us your work in
person, please call ahead for appointment. You may apply with images of
past work that is substantially similar to what you will create for the
show.

We try to be very easy to work with, and are much more interested in finding
great art than having a formally unflexible application process. Our
selections will be based on the works and not the resume, we regularly show
emerging alongside prominent without a preference.

Other relevant information:
Deadline to apply is May 30, notifications sent out immediately thereafter
Show dates are August 1 - August 24, 2003
Opening reception August 1 7-10pm, artists expected to attend opening
reception
Delivery and takeaway of unsold artworks is artist responsibility
Our studio hamsters are named Hiccups and Flinger
Gallery commission is 40%
Gallery provides extensive publicity and promotion for the artists involved

If you know of a clay artist that is a good match for the show...please pass
this along or have them get in touch with us!

MudFire is a working clay studio open to the public, as well as Atlanta's
clay-only gallery space, and is artist-owned and operated. Email
