new link for old cone six tests

updated sun 13 apr 03

John Anthony on fri 11 apr 03

A couple of folks have asked where the page of tests I posted last month
had gone-
I had to move the stuff to another site, and it took a little longer
than I expected-
here's a new link for anyone interested
www.redhillpottery.com/cone6tests.html
i have many more tests, but the weather's turning, I've got a huge stack
of wood, so I'm
making pots to fire up the wood kiln this month. I'll post some more as
soon as I can get some photos done.

cheers
John Anthony

Ababi-
As I said in my offlist reply- I certainly did not remove your name from a
recipe that had it attached, and I never said the recipe was "mine". You seem to be coming on a little
strong and making some assumptions that are not necessarily warranted, I have one recipe in my notes called Ababi's Fall's Creek Shino, and it's not this one-and this one isn't identical to the one I tested. I have searched back through my notes and I am not able to find the source of that recipe- there are a lot of Fall's and Falls Creek Shinos on the web if you use various search engines, and some of them are contained in posts and unattributed.
Certainly I have nothing but respect for your efforts and knowledge- and you got much nicer results than I did
if those photos are of the same glaze.
So, I will gladly amend the name of the glaze on the test page as soon as I can do so ( Monday I guess), so all ten of the other people on the planet who care about cone 6 oxidation shinos will be correctly informed.
In the meantime, as I also said in my offlist reply, take a chill pill- there's no need to get huffy about what amounts to a completely benign and unintentional oversight. Politeness is easier on everyone (well,on me anyway).

This recipe was created to avoid the using of Lithium Carbonate in this beautiful
glaze.
Please note: You did not pay my for my expenses of testing my glazes at least pay
me the respect and keep my name. Even a public domain can be respected!
By the way; This glaze is nice when it is thin and thick better on a buff claybody much
better over an iron oxide wash.

Hello John and hello everybody!
I will add here my reply to you off list answer: perhaps even wider.
You are right their are many versions to Falls creek Shino.
The original I believe is this one:
at least this is the one I know from the list prepared by Don Goodrich
============================
FALL'S CREEK SHINO ^6 OX
Gerstley Borate 18.69
F-4 Feldspar 9.35
Alberta Slip 56.07
Lithium Carb 6.54
Silica 9.35 9.35
+ Zircopax 9.35
Tin Oxide 4.67

from Rafael Molina-Rodriguez

==========================
By the way my translating tool does not understand : take a chill pill- there's no need
to
>get huffy about what amounts to a completely benign and unintentional oversight.
Sorry If I was mean:

You said we used different materials I used ultrox and you used zircopax I used red
clay and you used redart.
I believe I have adjusted my recipe for clayart. Besides Ultrox and Zircopax are the
same or very near. Red clay and red art are almost the same.

The only thing I have in the ceramic world is the appreciation to my work. I do not get
a coin for it.
One of the reasons I spread my recipes: Why would not other people learn and make
these glazes, If I cannot use them , because I am not selling my works ( except
teaching) let other people enjoy my glazes and use them. Another reason: The ClayArt
Archives are my best glazes archives! Better than a CD If my computer fails I can pick
the recipes anywhere!
The glaze you had tested :

FALLS CREEK2 Could it be FALLS CREEK II ?

Similar?
you might have it in the original way I had it in Insight.

If I would be an evil man I could with my current knowledge take all the recipes I know
from books or sites and write them with different figures. No one except the glaze
gurus or glaze addicts would know I would cheat. Names like red clay and red art do
not matter using one feldspar or another does not mean it is a different glaze.
