slide presentation in concord, massachusetts

on thursday, april 10, 2003, at 7:30 p.m., there will be a slide
presentation by john baymore at the emerson umbrella center for the arts
(a community arts building with 60+ artists' studios, including six
potters) in concord, massachusetts. the presentation is entitled
"experience the aomori international wood fire festival".

new hampshire potter john baymore (a clayart member) will present a
slide talk about his experiences at the aomori international wood fire
festival in goshogawara-shi, japan during august 2002. john was one of
80 ceramic artists from around the world invited to participate in the
two-week festival. approximately 50,000 visitors attended this
international exchange of ideas and work.

the slide presentation will include a synopsis of the wood fire
festival, views of the studios and work of potters like shimaoka tatsuzo
and matsuzaki ken, an overview of the ceramic arts, and reflections on
the cultural context. also included will be brief video segments.

about the artist:

john has been a professional studio potter for 32 years and is currently
adjunct professor of ceramics at the new hampshire institute of art. he
designed and guilt the gas-fired kiln at the emerson umbrella. john has
also taught at the massachusetts college of art, boston university's
program in artisanry. and the danforth museum school. he has presented
numerous workshops and lectures over the years including at two nceca
conferences and the alabama clay conference. john has been wood firing
since 1969, and currently fires a large four-chamber noborigama located
at his studio in wilton, new hampshire. he was the recipient of the
judges special prize in the mashiko, japan ceramics competition,
recently had an exhibition at tokai gallery on newbury street in boston,
massachusetts, and this past month he won the seely ceramics prize in
the new hampshire potters' guild biennial. for more background on his

my personal note: i've seen the presentation and i think it's well worth
it... especially if john brings some of the pots that he brought when i
saw the presentation.
