Dear Gayle,I just wrote you a longish note and it dissappeared from the
screen...my
bloody computer has a mind of its own..the gist was a) I liked your
discussion position letter and b) I suspect that to get the proper $
respect for those one of a kind painterly plates that we all love to
make, it would be worth the effort to get a reputation..entering all
those competitions , shipping the damn plates, paying the entry fees etc,
because bigger names equal bigger $.

.Not justice .....one would hope the
pot and the price were commensurate but who ever said it was a fair
world?

I could never do it myself so consider this absolutely
theoretical advice, and anyhow, it certainly is more fun painting one of
a kind than it is doing production.. fondly Elca

Was it plates you were talking about, Gayle?

Easy, peasy getting high-higher-highest prices...

You just bore two little holes into the footring. Insert a wire and HANG IT
ON THE WALL: the price rises exponentially... (sp?)

Especially if it matches the sofa of those whose eye it catches in the
first place... Or the "subject" of the design appeals to them.

BTW Frank (The Potters' Dictionary) Hamer makes functional platters with
fish designs and they are all for hanging. Although a "household name"
amongst potters, he has earned his money from teaching and making. You
don't get rich from writing books either...
