Page 1....NCECA diary.
My vacation from reality began last Monday. I arrived early to fulfill
the pleasurable NCECA job of checking in most of the EXHIBITORS. To me it
was like manning a hospitality booth. The anticipation and excitement were
at peak pitch. Some people had REALLY weird accents (especially from
Minnesooota, Japan, and China).....I had to tell them to please slow down
and say one word at a time. ; ) Many new friends were made as I scrambled
to make tags.....my kind of job.....double tasking with a smile......kept me
out of the bars for a while.....until Tuesday night when.....I started
toward "Charlie's" to meet some e-mail friends and .....as if sent from
above....on the balcony of the row of rooms next to mine was Carla Flati
!!!! HI YA HONEY !....so, I went up to Russel's room to see beautiful pots
that had been traded at the M. Davis workshop the day before. In their room,
I also had a chance to stroke Crystal Melvis before his public sighting.
At Charlie's bar, there were thousands of Clayarters (seemed like).
There was a long table full inside, and a big round table outside. Lots of
mingling. I found myself in exciting conversations about woodfiring, pots,
hair color, etc......Thanks to Marcia and to Carla for the drinks !
Wednesday I rested and shopped the exhibitors hall. Since my body clock
was still on Central time...a nap was needed mid afternoon. THEN it was time
to dress for the Clayart cocktail party........what to wear ?!?
what to wear ?!? Red heels and skirt for sure.....but I was having such fun
trying on blouse and necklace possibilities that the time just got away from
me. I glanced at the clock and it was 6:45 PM... !!! I was supposed to be
at the opening ceremony to check badges as people entered ! I threw on a
blouse and some lipstick and jogged from the front of the Courtyard rooms to
the grand hall ! I was going so fast that I only heard snippets of the
exclamations I as I passed potter after potter.."RED HEELS !" Turns
out....there were three doors into the ballroom, and I was the only tag
checker.....I gave it up....but not before having some fun with it,.... like
insisting on seeing tags for Jack Troy, Peter Callas, the featured speaker
and the NCECA president......they liked the joke : )
Now, how was that for a taste of NCECA madness ?
