What ever happened to the old archives where everything was listed by
category, on the same page, with entries under the headings that you could
click on to open? You didn't have to type in information like in the
current version of archives. It seemed a lot easier to navigate, and to
find things.

Hi Dai
I think what you're referring to is an index to the Clayart archive which is
done by a separate group(?) called "potters.org." See if this is what you
mean.
http://www.potters.org/categories.htm

Out of curiousity, since I had thought that this site was handled by Yahoo,
and since the page http://www.potters.org/about.htm gives virtually no
information about "potters.org" I did a little sleuthing and found that the
potters, org domain is owned by a domain registrar called, appropriately
enough, Register.com Inc.
However seemingly mysterious this site, it does a pretty good and often
useful job of categorizing clayart posts. Actually, it's good and some
kinds of topics and terrible for others.

They are still there are:

They aren't part of the ACERs website, as far as I can see.

register.com is just the domain registrar... they do not own the domain.
The domain is owned by Alan Ambrose, Quantz Ltd, 5th Floor,
Prince's Tower, Elephant Lane, London, UK SE164NF - alan.ambrose@quantz.com

With the explosion of domain registrars, I'm finding that the old
"whois" doesn't work as well... it often takes several tries with
different "whois" servers to track down the info. Worse, some registrars
now offer anonymous, or masked registrations, so you can't find out
who owns the domain.
