thickness of a nickel/now glaze washes

This is an interesting idea to me too. I like the idea of just fluxing the
surface of the exterior of a pot, so you can feel the texture of the clay.
This also contrasts well with a smoothly glazed interior of a bowl, for
instance. I have a bucket of what I call "Stain-dip", because it is an iron
glaze, very watery, into which I sometimes quickly swish a pot in and out
(count "1"), then after a few minutes, glaze the inside.

On a related subject, I remember reading here, in connection with soda ash
washes, that the liquid detergent intended for automatic dishwashers
contains similiar ingredients, so I tried a test tile, brushing some on half
the tile. I must have used too much, because it looked just like a
transparent shiny glaze....this was at cone 6.
