One last--GASP--response.

Last year, I attended a workshop led by the very fine potter, Eric Struck,
manager of IMCO clays. Eric said that when the clay leaves their huge clay
mixers the platelets may need realignment. So Eric took bags of yet
un-opened IMCO clay and repeatedly threw them on the ground before he did
any kneading. I have taken Eric's advice upon using freshly opened bags of
clay and upon working with re-constituted clay: I bang a big chunk down on
my wedging table a number of times before doing spiral wedging. I have, in
the past year, had only one small s-crack in the bottom of my clay.
