Helo dear folks!
I have never lived in an area where NCECA was to be held. I am looking
forward to meeting so many of you. Finally matching up faces and voices
with your names and writing styles.
I would like to tell you about some local "north coast" events, (small
beach towns just north of San Diego proper)
some NCECA activities I will be involved with, and also extend an
invitation to those of you who might like to visit my studio while you
are here.

TILE HERITAGE FOUNDATION: I have put together a self guided tour of some
historic tile and architectural ceramics sites in both downtown San
Diego and Balboa Park. The downtown sites are easily accessible by
trolley and moderate walking. Balboa Park is accessible by the wednesday
NCECA shuttle buses, car, taxi or public transportation via trolley and
bus #7. The brochure will be available at the THF booth in the NCECA
vendor/exhibitor's hall. I will also post the info on my website (give
me a week or so) and bring copies to the CLAYART room. If you are going
to the Balboa Park NCECA exhibits, this will tell you about some of the
tile fountains and the architecture you will see there. Also it might be
fun to go do the downtown or Balboa loop together, if some of you are
interested, sometime during the week! NOTE: THE FOLLOWING LINK IS NOT
YET ACTIVE http://www.alchemiestudio.com/nceca.htm

OK, here's what is going on in the North Coast, Saturday, March 15.

TRIOS GALLERY DEMO AND EXHIBIT. SOLANA BEACH. SATURDAY MARCH 15. I will
be giving a demo at Trios Gallery at 11 AM... It isn't an official
NCECA event because it is taking place before the official NCECA
closing at 1PM. Trios Gallery is sponsoring a day of demos by local
ceramic artists and potters, so there will be demos going on all day.
Trios Gallery is on Cedros avenue in Solana Beach, just a few blocks
from the Coaster and AMTRAK Station. Later that evening, Trios will have
an opening from 6-8 PM Saturday night , featuring a special NCECA show
as well as work of area potters and Ceramics sculptors. I will have
recent work in the gallery. website is http://www.triosgallery.com

Other North Coast Galleries in Solana Beach and Encinitas are
coordinating with Trios to feature clay activities and exhibits that
day.
Part of the intention is to bring ceramics to the attention of the local
north coast residents as well as NCECA visitors.
I will post more complete information when I can.

OPEN STUDIO, SATURDAY MARCH 15. ALCHEMIE STUDIO , Leucadia ,
(ENCINITAS),CA.
STEPHANI STEPHENSON, LAIRD PLUMLEIGH, CHRIS HENLEY AND OUR GOOD
NEIGHBOR , POTTER SANDY KING MARTIN.
This will be CASUAL! Not a big party , not a big wing ding, just a warm,
neighborly invitation to stop by and say hi that afternoon from 1-4 PM,
if you can! Laird panics if he thinks it is going to be a big event
,as it is a working studio 5-6 days a week , so we'll just stay low key
with it! Maybe we should call it the 'greenhouse tour' because that's
where we work, in converted greenhouse studios!
Chris Henley , on the other hand , has a teensy treehouse studio
(kidding), with even teensier parking, so he is going to come over for
the day and bring some of his handmade pottery tools, etc.... We ARE
lucky!!!! Sandy is half a block away. She is an acomplished high fire
studio potter. She has been at it since 1965 and she knows a thing or
two and does work even mel might respect! I have a menagerie of work.
Laird has an even bigger menagerie. We have a parking lot and even
restrooms,. We'll try to have some munchies and we'd LOVE to see you.
I will bring maps, etc. to the CLAYART room and post more info on
website.

LOVELY BEACHES, FRIENDLY PEOPLE, BY CAR OR RAIL! I hope some of you can
come up to the north coast towns and beaches! These towns are about
15-25 minutes north of the conference site. They are an easy drive up
Interstate 5, and some people like to get on to old highway 101 north
of LaJolla , and just drive up the coast. The coast towns are also
served by the 'Coaster' train. To take the Coaster all you do is get on
the westbound blueline trolley at the Fashion Valley trolley stop, (stop
#37) adjacent to the Town and Country. Get off the trolley at stop # 35,
Old Town. (by the way Old Town is very close to the conference site and
a great place to dine). Catch the northbound Coaster at Old Town. It
stops at Solana Beach , Encinitas and Carlsbad. The Solana Beach and
Carlsbad stops will put you just a few blocks from the beach. The north
county beachs are really beautiful, not as crowded as Mission Beach ,
for example. The Coaster runs every day except Sunday. Amtrak also has
frequent, faster trips between the San Diego Santa Fe Depot and Solana
Beach, 7 days a week and into the evenings. Coaster rates are around
$4.00 , amtrak about $10.

More later, And .... I'll be around!

so top of the morning to you
