point-of-sale software/hardware

We have just begun looking into the possibility of purchasing a
point-of-sale software package, specifically the Quickbooks Point of
Sale system which includes a cash register, credit card scanner, bar
code scanner and sales receipt printer as well as the software package.
The total system is pricey (~$1300) so we don't want to purchase
something that's going to cause us more work than it saves. The
advertisements make it sound great (inventory control, customer data
tracking, easy transfer of data to other Quickbooks financial software,
etc.). We've heard both good and bad things (e.g., multiple entry of
the same credit card batch - tends to really aggravate the customers,
runs very slowly, crashes computer, etc.) about the Quickbooks POS.

Are there any Clayarters who have experience with this Quickbooks
software? Are there any Clayarters who have experience with any other
point-of-sale software/hardware systems? What has been your experience?

All comments/advice/recommendations welcome.

Thanks, Bob

I have no experience with QB POS, although I like the
bookkeeping program. Our coop Gallery uses Certek's Artisans
Storefront software and we love it.

We do consignment and wholesale, so needed software that could
deal with monthly consignment payout statements. Artisans
Storefront doesn't write checks within the system but all else
is great. We spent 3 years looking for Craft Gallery oriented
software and we're very happy with it. We've been using it for 2
years.
Contact me off list with specific questions. I'll be away from
Wed to Sun this week.
