When I first went to Alaska 30 years ago, there was a mosquito and bug
repellent that everyone used to counter the hoards of mosquitos that
Alaska has. It was called Buhach and it is still available today. It
comes as a dry powder in a can, is purely organic and is made from
dried Pyrethrum flowers. It can be applied in a number of different
ways to counter almost any insect, flying or otherwise. It is one of the
most effective repellents I have ever encountered. I still have some
that I occasionally use even today. Below are some URL's about Buhach
and pyrethrums.
