Sorry, I just had to change the subject line. I removed some vinyl tile
once and found that it was glued down with waterbased glue that came very
easily with water to dissolve it. It might be worth it to check it to see
if this works. I would second that recommendation on the Michael Byrne book
on tiling. I learned a lot from that book as well. I liked the old edition
best.
