how to send pots for a show in italy

i didnt know that this will be so complicated...
how do i send ceramics for an exhibition in italy?
the instruction i received is a little confusing for
me, and i`d appreciate your help, please!
originally i was asked to send the pieces to an agent
in italy, who are responsible for custom`s procedures.
my understanding was that this agent will forward the
pieces (after inspection) to the ceramic museum in
faenza, where the exhibition will take place.
now i was told to get in touch with the agent`s
forwarding agent here in the states, in chicago.
so, will i have to send the package to an agent in
chicago, who will forward it to another agent in
italy, who will finally send it for the exhibition?
is that right ??? is this how it works???
cant i just go to the post office and send the package
to the agent in italy?
any advise, please?
thanks in advance,

marta

Marta, it is always complicated to send work to
another country. If they told you to contact the
Chicago agent, better give that agent a call, at
least. There are all kinds of rules and regulations,
and if you do not follow them, your work will not
go into the show.

So - if they said "agent in Chicago", that means
just that. Presumably, that agent will be able to
give you precise instructions. Showing out of the
country is always expensive, but it's fun. Just don't
worry about weather or not you get the work back.
Often that is THE MOST expensive part. I have
work floating around somewhere in three or four
countries, I know not where. Not to worry - I
make more.

If you happen to send the work directly yourself, I would suggest FedEx.
After living in Italy for a few months, I soon realized their postal system
is close to the worst in the world. It took nearly two weeks for whatever
you sent just to get out of the country and visa versa. However, if a
package was sent FedEx, it cut the entire time down from 3-4 weeks to about
a week.

This agent my have a container or something. They might collect all the work
here and ship it as one group to the show. If so, this would be best, as
your shipping costs would be significantly reduced!

As Dannon said, don't expect to get your work back though. It is hard enough
to deal with galleries here in America, much less ones in Italy. However, it
would be a nice addition to your resume!
