where can i learn about glazes? (recipe etiquette question

A few years ago I did a count through the major recipe books of the =
time, a sort of a straw poll, because I wondered why there were so few =
glazes where the Felspar fraction was above 50%. Turns out, in my =
judgement, that about 80% of all recipes for cone 8 and above are =
variations on the Leach Standard cone 8 Lime Felspar 4-3-2-1. That =
survey covered Chappell, De Boos, Cooper and Royle, Rhodes and Nelson. =
Standard additives were used to give colour or surface texture, or, to =
drop down to cone 5, just add Gerstly Borate or substitute Nepheline =
Syenite, or use both.
