cone-falling payoff

Thanks, Craig, for posting implications that=20
YOU want to "hang out near your kiln to wait
for the big payoff, as in shutoff time." I know
we all have priorities that differ from one
another, and for good reason. BUT I can't
fathom not wanting to watch that final cone
fall ... kills me when I've carefully kept watch while
doing other cleanup chores only to discover that
the two minutes I turned away is when the last
cone
fell!! Admittedly, I've overfired so often ... sometimes
with spectacular results, however ..... that I've
learned the hard way to Keep Watch until it's over.

Not counting electric bisque firings, I've only=20
fired the gas reduction Geils 112 times; maybe when
I've doubled that number, I'll be more jaded about
the whole business ...... don't think so, though.
My problem, as with many of you, is keeping my
hands off the door .... the more often I fire, the
more eager I am to see what's happening to the
glazes throughout the cooling time.... have made
some unexpected observations by opening at
most inappropriate times ... which doesn't help
a bit when I'm attempting to be respectful of
the process.=20

In the Mojave where I received my NCECA info
for San Diego. I don't see how future committees
can ever top this one! I'm Kurt Wilding it already ...
marking/checking/asterisking/numbering 1 to 10=20
the many Must Sees already on my list ...... not
counting the vendor hall nor great places to eat
nor making time to visit A Lot with claybuds.
Normally, I follow my nose, which has taken me
to some exciting events ...... not this time.
So glad to be having the second MRI Saturday so
I can get this torn meniscal repaired .. knee...
and get on with life ....... pain hurts!
