Steve Harrison of England, has a gem of a booklet called "Layed back wood
firing". It's only a few dollars and has plans for a small, crossdraft,
single bourry box kiln in the back, that one person can fire to cone 10 in
about ten hours.
The book is a treasure of hints on firing and building a bourry box wood
kiln.
The thing I like about the bourry box design is that you get pretty complete
combustion, therefore, clean firing without alarming the neighbors. You can
also use larger pieces of wood (up to about 6-7" diameter). It makes for an
easy firing, as wood firing goes.
If you're interested, here's an address for him that I found in a google
search:

I believe I bought my booklet from "Pottery In Australia" magazine. That was
in the 80's and at that time I paid around $3 for it.

Good luck!

As someone on this list described it; Throw a log on the fire, read a
chapter of your book, sip the martini, throw another log on, repeat.

Thanks for posting Steve's correct address. I got my book from "Potter In
Australia" magazine, as I mentioned and in doing a google search, I found a
Steve Harrison potter in England, and I assumed he had moved -- didn't
realize they weren't the same person!
