i was wondering if those spam people get
their addresses from the archives,
i get many every day. but, sorry mel,
mine are more interesting then yours, like:
'bigger, stronger, faster' or 'free trial of viagra'
and the latest one i misread the subject line and got
furious. i told my daughter, isnt it awful? they send me
spam on 'how to attack the opposite sex'
she is still laughing on me...

Someone I work with got one and began a correspondence
conducted in very fractured English, on his part. He
had tremendous patience but he finally beat the guy,
who wrote: You do not seem like a serious person. That
was the last he heard from him, but it didn't stop the
deluge.

Can servers stop this stuff from coming in?

The server cannot stop it because they change their e mail all the time I keep blocking
them ( in my other account) and they return In this account I have preview.
I get letters from India they want to sell me different stuff I do not delete as I think it is
from Clayarter but at least they are harmless

Unfortunately Mel, I think a lot of naturally helpful and trusting people,
like some fellow Quakers, could well fall for this.
I get several every day and thought it was because I was on an Esperanto
list and/or a Quaker list.
It's evidently hitting potters too. So no one is safe.
The Quakers sent out a special warning to all members.
I hope other groups are doing the same.
Just do not answer them at all.

Hello Mel.
They become more sophisticated. In the last messages I got a note that "Mr Mike
Sharon from your country has passed away. We looked for his relatives and found
you"
They do not know that Sharon is preferred name by people who change their last
name into Hebrew name, They did not know that late my father had lost his family in
the Holocaust. I wonder if they read our letters, in this case they will write me from
now on that "Mr mike Stern" and so on

Try using your email message filters to stop this stuff. There
are only so many African countries so if you add the country
named in every email of this sort you receive, eventually they
will all be sent straight to the trash. I sent junk mail to a
folder called PROB'LY TRASH so I can make sure something real
hasn't snuck in.....luckily these African ones are in plain text
so your email filter can read it. SO many junk mails are in HTML
so they get through...

The Fraud Squad local to me have asked me to forward them to them with
complete headers and cc them to the email provider's abuse dept. as
well. That way the Police can keep track of them and the spammers keep
having to change email providers as they get closed out of the one they
used.
