liz,
there is a picture of the plate, enlarged the middle
part. there, you can see the form of the fruit how it
was sitting on top of the shino glaze. right there
where the fruit was, now it is like a natural
geological crust, and at the edges of the spot where
the fruit was the shino glaze acted in a different
way. different from the rest of the plate. and it is
egzactly where the fruit was placed.
during this anagama firing, funnily, there was an
other osage orange placed on top of a bottle close to
the fire box. see picture of galen`s bottle:

the kiln got hotter and hotter during the first day of
stoking, but strangely enough the fruit was still
could be seen sitting on the top of that bottle. it
did not burn away. i am very curious if anyone has an
explanation for this. what osage oranges (or as i
learned it from other clayarters: that they are also
called hedge apples) are made of?
i put few more pictures up, including that bottle
which had the fruit sitting on the lip. of course we
cannot know it for sure, but it looks like that the
fruit melted and poured its ashes on the side of the
bottle.
good night,
marta

Marta,

Great pictures. Phil does some nice work. Actually, he taught me a few
things when I was first learning. We had the same teacher.

Thank you.

hi,
as i promised,
i put up some pictures on a photo album:

http://photos.yahoo.com/martaspix

all the pictures were taken right after unloading.
there are also few pictures of my plate there,
which is handbuilt stoneware, glazed with shino
and placed a rotten osage orange fruit in the middle
and fired in a virgin anagama for three days.
hopefully i`ll get more pictures from friends of their
pots fired there, and i will put those pix up soon.
happy holidays for everyone,
marta
