glaze request for prison

Just a few more words on the art program at Deuel Vocational Institution...

the California State prisons have had an art program in each institution
since the 70's. Studies have shown that the participants have fewer
disciplinary problems and a lower recidivism rate (parolees returning to
the prison system). This is in addition to learning skills like
self-discipline, team playing, math, language etc. The program might
include drawing, painting, ceramics, creative writing and music. Most of
the art programs in the prisons do some form of community work i.e.; murals
(on boards) for the community and art sales to benefit a non-profit.

Deuel has gotten a lot of kudo's on two of its programs; guitar making and
the ceramics. The ceramics sale has been successful for over 10 years and
generated over $100,000 for the Child Abuse Center. By the way, ALL
proceeds go to the non-profit, the inmates do not receive any money from
any of the sales.

Deuel has electric kilns and is looking for ^6 ox recipes. There is also a
raku area, so glaze recipes for raku would also be welcome.

Unfortunately, California's State budget is a mess, and the program is in
danger of being discontinued. If anyone out there feels like writing in
support of the program, please do. I've worked in the arts program at many
prisons in CA. (including Deuel) and can attest to the effectiveness of the
program in helping turn an inmates' life around.

Our Art Center has received a request for ^6 glaze recipes from the=20
Deuel (sp?) Vocational Institution, California State Prison in Tracy. =
CA. They found our name in the Pottery Illustrated pottery guide. Have =
others also received this request?
I am sending this to Clayarts in hopes that those of you in the San =
Francisco area might be interested in this project. The original =
pottery teacher has been transferred and did not leave glaze recipes.
They produce pottery for sale and the proceeds were donated last year to =
the Child Abuse Prevention Program in Stockton.
Please e-mail me off line if this is something you might like to do. I =
have a contact name. They are also interested in pottery books, but =
must have special permission to receive them.
Thank you,
