There are still openings in the 2-day hands on workshop with Ellen =
Shankin on January 25/26, 2003. This workshop is sponsored by the =
Carolina Clay Guild and will be held at Rockingham Community COllege in =
Wentworth, NC. If you're flying in, the nearest airport is Greensboro. =
Cost is $150 plus lunches.

Ellen's work is wheel thrown/altered high-fire stoneware with sprayed =
fake ash glazes. To register, contact Marcy Maury at mmaury@wfubmc.edu =

are fortunate. Ellen Shankin is a marvelous potter, and a
very interesting person. Hands-on workshops with her are
not common, - grab it while you can. You'll have a great time.>

I agree with Dannon. I attended a workshop with Ellen this year at the
College of William and Mary, and have carried many of her ideas and
techniques into my own work. I'd recommend this workshop to anyone for a
new and inspirational experience.

The Altered Pot: An Exploration of
Functional Form

Oct 18-19, 2003 9-5pm Fee: $150

Ellen will share her passion, process and techniques for
altering pots, along with the details of creating balance in
the piece by adding the aesthetically correct rim, handle,
spout and surface. Through a slide presentation and
demonstrations she will illustrate the techniques she has
developed for altering the thrown pot. Watch her throw,
cut, scrape, paddle, poke and push clay at this
demonstration workshop.

Ellen Shankin, a nationally recognized potter, lives and
works in Floyd, Virginia. She attended the Rhode Island
School of Design and Alfred University and is a recipient of
a 1990 NEA Fellowship Grant. She exhibits her workin
juried shows and galleries throughout the U.S. She teaches
workshops in universities and art centers and her work has
appeared in numerous ceramic publications including
Studio Potter, Ceramics Monthly and American Craft.
