the down side to teaching your kids about quality work

The kids develop exquisite taste. That's good, right?

You can see the effect from age ten to adult! The usual tacky
birthday presents received at parties from about age ten, are scoffed
at. And probably the quality handmade things given by our kids to
other kids are under-appreciated. I remember when our daughter tried
to find a tie tack in the form of a silver trumpet for a high school
boyfriend. She spent a fortune having it custom made, and we know he
thought it was a nice, inexpensive gift.

And just wait until it is time to sign up for wedding registries!
None of the usual registries will work! "I want handmade dishes, hand
blown stemware, etc..."

The kids rapidly learn to want the best of everything right away, and
it all has to be handmade as well as top quality! It is marvelous to
see it develop, and great to know they have had this education. But
there IS a down side!!

>Along with the fact that they drink their morning juice out of
>cups by Jack Troy, Mark Nafziger, and yours truly ;0) I'm hoping to
instill an appreciation of real pottery at a young age...
