glaze tests for oxides under clear and semimatte glazes.

Dear Clayart
These tests were done to try to find a glaze to go over oxides that are =
brushed on and brushed off again on the dishes I am making at present. =20
The oxides are applied on bisque ware. The strokes have irregular edges =
and brush marks from the stainless brushes I use to brush them off =
again.
I am looking for a glaze that is semimatte, gloss enough to use on =
dishes, and lets the oxides show through generally with the same edges =
that
they have on the bisque ware, but slightly muted by a semi gloss or =
satin matte glaze.=20

As these tests show, although nice effects, none give the true results I =
am looking for.
I will retest Le Matte on larger tests to see if this is the glaze that =
will give the surface I am looking for. Back to the glaze table. I am =
working with
Tony Hansen's 5 x 20 to get it less glossy. It has all the qualities I =
like in a glaze and I use as a staple for a clear and gloss white. It =
never settles and is very
forgiving about uneven applications. As is, it is too glossy for these =
particular dishes.

Alisa,

Don't know if you've found what you're looking for yet. Have you ever tried
SCVC5? It has a satin matt finish. Quite clear when fast cooled. Becomes
translucent and cloudy (especially where thick) and more matt when slow
cooled. Recipe is:

Cornwall Stone 40
FF 3124 9
Talc 9
Whiting 16
EPK 10
Flint 16

Hi Valerie,
Thanks a lot. I will give it a try. I am not really happy yet. The glaze
I like best, the Zinc glossy from Ron and John is great, but it settles too
hard. So, I will let you know when I test this one. Thanks very much,
regards from Alisa

Hi Alisa,
I have been desirous of a good glaze that will not fade my oxide decorations
for several years. I have resorted to using a very thin wash of glaze so I
await your search results with great interest.
Are you celebrating Thanksgiving? If so Happy Thanksgiving!
