The liquid wax we use is Mobil Cera M, up until a year or two ago
overcoats would flow off leaving no residue, as you describe.
Now it does not repel as before, another thing, the wax does
not "dry", instead it remains sticky.
Various suppliers had received complaints similar to mine.
I bought a 20 litre drum from a Mobil distributor with the same results.
Mobil technical support promised to look into my queries & get back.
Unfortunately aliens have carried off the entire department
as no reply has been forthcoming.
Too be fair to Mobil the pissant amounts potters use compared
to the tonnage used by the timber industry wouldn't call for a high priority.

I traditionally use Aftosa's brand and the majority of the time when I run the oxide over the dried wax resist, small beads of oxide stick to the wax. Other times, the oxide flows flawlessly, leaving no residue on the wax. I have studied the variables: drying time and thickness of the wax application and cannot find a consistent reason why sometimes the wax works and other times it does not. Aftosa was clueless when I asked for any help. Do anyone have any ideas about this?
