i fire cone 6 oxidation and use only self-supporting witness cones to
evaluate when i will shut down my kiln. i end up checking every 15
minutes near the end of a firing and more if it's late and i want to go
to bed. cone freezing is an issue for those of us firing in
oxidation...i think that tim frederich with orton has mentioned it here
and there.
