Some general info on glycerin.

Used as a "plasticizer"..
bacteriostat, fermentation nutrients,
lubricant, softener,
"bodying agent" (sounds good..I agree)

But what is glycerin, really?

Glycerin is a neutral, sweet-tasting, colorless, thick liquid which freezes
to a gummy paste and which has a high boiling point. Glycerin can be
dissolved into water or alcohol, but not oils. On the other hand, many
things will dissolve into glycerin easier than they do into water or
alcohol. So it is a good solvent.

Glycerin is also highly "hygroscopic" which means that it absorbs water from
the air. Example: if you left a bottle of pure glycerin exposed to air in
your kitchen, it would take moisture from the air and eventually, it would
become 80 per glycerin and 20 percent water.

Use:
Alkyd resins, dynamite, ester gums, pharmaceuticals, perfumery, plasticizer
for regenerated cellulose, cosmetics, foodstuffs, conditioning tobacco,
liquors, solvent, printers ink rolls, polyurethane polyols, emulsifying
agent, rubber stamp and copying inks, binder for cements and mixes, special
soaps, lubricant and softener, bacteriostat, penetrant, hydraulic fluid,
humectant, fermentation nutrients, antifreeze mixtures.

The physical properties and characteristics ofglycerin are as significant as
its chemical properties for manyapplications. These qualities enable
glycerin to be used as ahumectant, plasticizer, emollient, thickener,
solvent, dispersingmedium, lubricant, sweetener, bodying agent, antifreeze
andprocessing aid. It is not unusual for glycerin to contributetwo or more
features or attributes to a product or application. In all applications,
whether as a reactant or as an additive, the virtual non-toxicity and overall
safety of glycerin isalways of significant benefit. Glycerin applications
appear tobe limited only by the imagination and creativity of the scientific
and technical communities.

Glycerin
Glycerin is a Hyperosmotic Laxative is usually prepared as a suppository. It
can also be prepared as an enema solution. Glycerin attracts water to the
stool, stimulating rectal contractions (the defecation reflex). Glycerin
also lubricates and softens the stool.

The use of glycerin in drying is successful with most
FOLIAGES, but cannot be used successfully with flowers.
