Dear Jeremy,

Well...certainly many fine and old, to very old indeed, of
exemplars may be found amid the traditional (if somewhat
esoteric thereof) Japanese atrtifacts...often very nice
designs and playful, even as other of their Work tended to
be at times...imaginative and lively...some in simple
(handsome, I suppose one might say, of ) earnest...in Wood
often, but
other materials...Ivory...or what.
Certain Gourds as had to their surface what ornament or
pattern as may have been carved...shapes from 'Nature' as
lent themselves to the task...

Some Cultures seemed more interested, disposed, or maybe
more in need of them than others, so far as the evidence of
recorded History, or of
testimonies of the archeological or artfiactual and
ephemeral records, or as they may
suggest...or such of those 'records' and evidenses as to
which one may find, or have, acess.

I understand there are some extensive private
Collections...and, I have seen of some photographic
Catalogueing of some of them...but it was long ago and I do
not remember where they were, or to whom they belonged...

It used to be, such matters were perhaps more liable to err
on the side of discrete...maybe now-a-days, such
Collections, or some of them, may be more celebrated,
published, and hence findable...?

They are out there...
