One of the students in my College of the Redwoods night class gave a
wonderful presentation and slide show for the class last night on her
August trip to the Aomori Woodfire Festival in Japan. Anyway, I was
wondering if anybody knew if there was a video or film of the festival?

Hi. I was also one of the 80 invited artist presenters at the Aomori
International Wood Fire Festival in Japan.... and have been giving slide=

lectures recently too. I will be doing another slide showing at the NH
Institute of Art on either November 8th or 15th in the evening. I am
finishing my Ceramics Monthly article on the event this weekend. =

(BTW...... one of the other invited Festival artists, Peter Lange, has an=

article in this month's CM.)

The event itself was fantastic...... an incredible experience. The
organizer, Matsumiya Ryouji, his committee, and the 400+ volunteers did a=
n
unbelievable job of planning and executing the event.

NHK (Japanese national TV) was there on many days and was shooting lot of=

footage. I do not know what the eventual destiny of that footage was to
be. I got interveiewed a couple of times, and they always seemed to be
"around" somewhere shooting. I'm hoping it will eventually show up on th=
e
"Yakimono Tambo" show.... "Pottery Pilgrimage". TV Japan carries that sh=
ow
here in the USA.

If you go to the http://www.makigama.jp website, they have a pretty good
run of pictures up. Couple video clips. They also have some shots of th=
e
loading, firing, and unloading of the work which we left there to be fire=
d
in the noborigama and anagama at the Kanayama Ceramic Cooperative. =

In addition to my pile of slides, I shot about 5 hours of 8mm videotape
..... but it is real "home movie" stuff . You wouldn't want to see it=

.

Best,
