Many years ago..
having been unable to take an
evening adult education course on sculpture..
I fortunately was able to do a pottery one instead.

It was requested for grading purposes..
to hand in a drawing and comments "journal"

I refused on the grounds that I
did not want one to interfere with my "creativity"
Things were happening without the predetermined choice.

It seemed like a good idea at the time..probably was.

Before establishing my studio here I had no equipment..
so after drawing for a few weeks many pots..
I went about handbuilding the various selected
forms over the course of a year..taking moulds from plaster

It was then that I choose to stick, with some discipline,
to a firm adherance to the predermined form..
though I was tempted by oh so many tangents.

Now I draw and make without much concern...
allowing the creative impulse to weave
back and forth without imposing any restrictions ..
as I feel.

My artist statements?... well, you read them here.
