Does any one know of a formula for the volume of a catenary arch kiln?

I was wondering that myself having just helped build a kiln and this
allowed my math major side to get the better of me.

Short answer care of Ward Burner website
http://www.wardburner.com/kiln_volume.cfm

CF = L x Arch area (4/3 H x 1/2 Base Width)
a 6 foot deep kiln, 5 feet high and 4 feet at the base is 6*6.66*2 =
80cubic feet!

Long answer, you will have to take the integral of the curve of the
cantenary arch, which is not a simple parabola as I originally thought.
The equation is a*cosH(a/t). I worked for a while with my rusty
trigonometry and gave up. L x 4/3H x 1/2B looks like a great approximation
for me.

Cheers
Lloyd
