every glaze that i use on a regular basis has
been converted to pounds.

that is what was on my computer when i wrote
that note about nigel woods sung.

my nigel woods book is on loan, and i do
not have his original recipe on hand, near the computer.

so, that recipe makes a 5 gallon pail of base.

you can add whatever you want.
have never had a shiver or glaze fault with that glaze.
it is on thousands of pots/used for eating. mostly porcelain
cone 11.

i loved the old gertsley/volcanic ash glaze.

the ash came in a 60 pound bag.
the gert came in a 40 pound bag.
mix them both together in a garbage can. add water.
glaze. cone 5-6

alter the ratio/ stoneware.
sorry to see gertsley go south.

some of the frits are very expensive for school use.

anyway.
pounds. it is the wave of the future. store scale.
big scoop.
50 gallon plastic drum.
you can really get your pots into that drum...a good foot
ring, plunge. count. remove.
no wax need, except to decorate. very little clean up.

i see folks with a triple beam scale, balance, fuss...
`oh, lordy, i have 7 grams to much silica...what can i do?`
nothing. make pots. 1700 grams, and a gram too much.
means nothing. if i add a pound of silica too much to rhodes 32
it would just make it better. tighter.

oh, and with my rhodes 32, i always add extra silica, and titanium.
makes it totally food perfect. i store cut lemons on a plate for a week.
( i can hear john h. sighing now.) tsk, tsk.

i think ron roy said it all last week. important.
learn to know your materials, know what hey will do.
trust your experience....we have done this, thousands
of times.

always be open to new things, but don't throw out your
experience. this is not abstract, this is concrete.
knowledge based on experience and study. a good concept.
and you don't learn that in six weeks.
