ok.

end result - do any of you shimpo gurus know the
number of the belt size that i need from the hardware
store. I am fairly confident that I have the wrong
size. - dunlop industrial 'v' belt 4L440.

story - i put all the rubber back in the wheel (belt
and ring drive).

The cone was behind the metal ring that holds the
rubber ring and pulley.
(I think it can be called a pulley though that may not
be exactly what it is. It is close enough in my book.
One could argue that my book needs a new edition but
it is the one I am going by.)

I figured that the previous owner had to skoot the
motor/cone/pedal unit up to accomodate the stretched
belt.

I had a look at the slots for adjusting said unit and
the allen bolts were at uneven positions.
I took this as confirmation of my suspicions.

I brought the unit all the way back.

Since this is the end of the story and I am still
posting I am sure that you can guess the end result.

If you guessed that the cone is still behind the ring
you were be right.
There is no million bucks to be won but you can be
real happy with yourself.

So - has anyone run into this?
Is this an indication of the belt being too small or
does something else need replacing/tightening?
The rubber washers on the cross beam that holds the
pulley/ring unit?

I am not very enthusiastic about learning by trial and
error on something as valuable as a wheel so anything
would be helpful.

jon - hoping that car talk redeams this morning.
